A great majority of individuals see working out as a chore rather than a pleasurable activity. However, this view can easily be changed. The Nintendo game system has a number of game titles available for everything from light walking exercises to intense cardio workouts. There is also a large number of fitness accessories (Wii Fit accessories) to enhance the workout experience. One great title that is very popular right now is EA Sports Active.  EA Sports Active provides people with the opportunity to have fun while exercising, all in the privacy of their own living rooms. Unlike ab cruncher marketing campaigns, the workouts featured on this game are not a con. They really do provide results. Let’s take a closer look at EA Sports Active.

The game functions as your personal training instructor. It provides you with the opportunity to participate in 30 day challenges. These are pre-set programs that you partake in for 30 days. They are specially designed so that you have an achievable goal to strive after and will ease you into exercising on a daily basis. Many individuals feel overwhelmed and out of their depth after joining a gym. They feel that attempting to get fit or retaining their current level of fitness is too great a challenge. With 30 day challenges, you are only required to make a short term commitment.

On the flip side, such a challenge may be viewed as a negative. You may feel that after 30 days, you will be fed up of exercising and will quit soon after. The reality is, once you have mastered 30 days’ training you will feel highly motivated to continue and you will wonder why you didn’t start your challenge sooner. At first, you will be telling yourself that you only have a small mountain to climb but then once you have conquered it, you will be inspired to go that bit further. You will soon find yourself becoming one of those seemingly crazy people who find enjoyment in working out.

EA Sports Active is packed with workout activities that really do provide you with the results you desire. Do not spend your hard earned money on ab crunching gimmicks that promise great results yet do not deliver. They will only leave you feeling disappointed, regretful and uninspired. Abdominal exercises will only work to strength the muscles in this area – they are not effective at burning body fat. For this reason, ab crunching marketing campaigns may be amongst some of the greatest marketing cons ever invented. Similarly, cardiovascular exercises are recommended but in excess they will not prove as effective in promoting and maintaining great health and a trim figure in the way you may have expected. This game contains exercises that have been created to encourage participation in an optimal quantity of cardio exercises. This will ensure that you work on improving your health but will not burn out from overdoing it.

Exercises which increase strength rate highly on EA Sports Active. These exercises are recognized by health and exercise professionals as those which will help to result in rapid changes in your body composition and health in general. These exercises include presses and squats as well as lunges and curls. Strength exercises will not change your appearance to that of a bodybuilder. Unless your diet is akin to that of a bodybuilder, these exercises will result in a body which is firmer and more toned.

EA Sports Active can be used in conjunction with many Wii accessories. The leg strap can be used to allow your movements to be viewed on the TV screen. A resistance band will enable you to modify the intensity of strength exercises.

You may be wondering how this game differs from the Wii Fit with its Wii Fit balance board. The answer is that both games serve very different purposes. The Wii Fit is more focused on improving balance. On this game, yoga features very highly. EA Sports Active however, focuses on the creation and use of a home based personal gym.

If you are dissatisfied with your abdominal area, or simply want to be in better shape, the best way to get a good workout is by using a swiss abs ball. They are much more effective than ab chairs, or other ab machines. If you think about it, you’ll realize that most gyms don’t have an ab chair or anything like it, but you can count on seeing a multitude of swiss ab balls. The reason for this is simple, most other ab machines do nothing, while the swiss ab balls really work.

There are many swiss ball ab exercises that you can do. It is easy to find a list of them and even demonstration videos at numerous places on line. I’m sure youtube has some available.

To understand how much more the ab ball works your abdominals than even doing a simple crunch on the floor, try this test. Do a simple crunch on the floor and then do one on the swiss ab ball. You will feel more muscles contracting on the ball. This happens because your body needs to stabilize itself to stay on the ball. It also allows for a wider range of motion and is more comfortable in general.

You can purchase a swiss abs ball pretty much anywhere, Ross, Walmart, sports stores, you name it, they probably carry this inexpensive piece of home gym equipment. While any ball will probably be sufficient there are definitely those that are of higher quality. Thera-Band and SPRI consistently make quality products.

Also be sure and check the sizing suggestions that should be listed on the side of the box. The balls come in small, medium, large, and extra large sizes to accommodate all different sizes of people. When the ball is inflated your thighs should be parallel or slightly higher than parallel to the floor when seated.

Leg Power for Running and Jumping

For the past couple of years, there have been researches conducted and the results showed that most, if not all of those people who have a relatively high vertical leap are fast runners as well and vice versa. Their ability to jump and run faster has everything to do with the strength and explosive power of their legs, which they obtained with the aid of formal training. Although there are certain muscles in the body which are used primarily for jumping and there are those used predominantly for running, such muscles can overlap one another and in turn, help you in both actions.

The study also showed that those who have stronger calves and quads are usually high jumpers and those who have well developed glutes and hamstrings are fast runners. So, for instance you have developed the muscles of your quads and calves, then you for sure are reaping the benefits of being able to jump higher. However, since the game of basketball will also require you to run back and forth the entire basketball court, you must be able to improve the strength of your glutes and hamstrings as well, so you would be able to run faster.

Now, there are two fantastic exercises to jump higher that will enable you to tackle all of these said muscles, which in turn make you a well rounded athlete and they are depth jumps and squat jumps.

The squat jump is basically a plyometric routine that will help increase your explosive power. The execution of this routine is the same as that of your basic squat with only the addition of a jump. With this, you go for a squat and then simply explode upwards.

The depth jump is also a plyometric exercise which will require the use of a platform that you need to jump onto and step off from. This is an excellent routine for the development of your lower body. If you want to know more about plyometric exercises, go look for the Jump Manual. This eBook is packed with tons of plyometrics and other jump higher exercises.
